Pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education and certification in middle- and high-school English Language Arts at UMass-Amherst via the Bridges to the Future program, a partnership between the university and area school districts.

  • Teaching two 9th grade ELA sections, one an honors class, and a general 11th grade class.

 

  • Leading a school-wide initiative to improve student vocabular y using vocabulary.com,
    a website and app that makes use of game-based, adaptive technology.

 

  • Teaching critical media literacy and working with school’ s journalism class to launch
    the student magazine online.

 

  • Developing an afterschool program of instruction for students who have difficulty with writing.

 

  • Completed 3-credit, Sheltered English Immersion course and willreceive SEI teacher endorsement upon graduation in May.

Managing Editor, MONEY

As the top editor of the nation’s largest financial publication (circ. 1.7 million), oversaw all aspects of coverage, design, product extensions, and digital presence. Worked closely with advertising and consumer marketing teams to optimize revenue opportunities while remaining true to the magazine’s mission to help middle-class and mass-affluent Americans achieve financial security.

 

Under my leadership Money was a three-time finalist for and winner of the Gerald Loeb award, the most prestigious in financial journalism. Money also was a three-time finalist for a National Magazine award during my tenure.

2008
Executive Editor, FORTUNE.COM and FORTUNE MAGAZINE

Led website during financial crisis and integrated print and digital investing and technology teams.

 

2004-2008

Served as No. 2 editor of the magazine. Played key role in developing and executing the magazine's 2005 re-launch as an approachable, authoritative guide to life’s money challenges.

2001-2004

Founding Editor, CNNMONEY.com

Launched and ran site, which merged Money and CNNfn websites after AOL/Time Warner merger.

 

  •  While taking out $3 million in costs, moved the site from No. 10 to No. 1 by audience size in its category.

  •  Created a multi-million dollar investor-education project for financial services firm ING.

Started as senior editor; promoted in one year. Ran magazines coverage of stocks, online investing and autos.

Expanded the editorial and community offerings of TheAmerican Lawyer’sgroundbreaking online service for attorneys. Along with CTO, led migration from proprietary technology onto the open web.

Executive Editor, American Lawyer Media Ran newsrooms at legal and business newspapers in New York, San Francisco and Miami.

 

  • Edited series on banking and the poor that was named the best business investigative story in the Southeast.

 

  • American Lawyer papers won numerous state and regional awards under my direction on topics ranging from the arbitrariness of immigration court in San Francisco to the coziness of corporate boards in South Florida.
